Gas is selling for $0.579/gal. When you

Now adjust what you’re making for inflation.

Too grainy to tell for sure, but it might be a ‘63 Falcon Futura or Sprint.

The main difference is that it was 10% more gas back then.

I don’t know. We owned one when I was a kid, and while I was never old enough to drive it, it was no race car. My older brother sure ragged the shit out of it, though. And he did get a speeding ticket for 71 in a 35.

1975 didn’t have cell phone plans costing $160 per month for two people nor did it have internet costs, computer equipment to buy every few years and health care that was pretty much paid for by the employer. Gas at $2.56 today without all of those other things...pricey.

More lighting. Back in 1970 it was daytime... all the time... under this canopy.

I love the color also, though it’s dark days ahead for the American auto industry.

What would $60k/yr earned today be worth in 1975?

And Dad drove that car across the desert multiple times at 80 mph with the A/C on, and hadn’t learned about oil changes, so when I started punishing it, the rings were already gone.

Meh, I knew it was one over double the posted limit. Either way, it was WD. Or did the cop cut you a break?

No breaks, but the cop didn’t show up in court and the judge granted a continuance — he was impressed that I’d brought along money to pay a fine — and I bought Dad lunch instead.

$13, 500. If you were making $60k in 1975 that’d be worth $265,000 in 2015 dollars.

I found the $13.5k number also, but your second comparison is much more meaningful. What we might try and do is chose one or two professions, say, a union carpenter and
a Gawker blog moderator
some professional like an attorney and compare their salaries now to 30 years ago.
